Information & Misinformation
about Genocide/1971

The Genocide of 1971 is one of the worst of all 20th century genocides. Yet, it is also among the least reported ones. It is much worse due to misinformation about the genocide. One common such misinformation is seen at various internet sites, including reputable sites about genocide studies, under the heading "Hindu Genocide in 1971 in Bangladesh (former East Pakistan)".

The fact is that there has NOT been any separate Hindu genocide, apart from the genocide in 1971, in which many Hindus were targeted by the genocidal army of Pakistan and killed in large number. Yet, the vast majority of the victims of the genocide was Muslims, not Hindus. As the relationship between Bangladesh and India has worsened over the years, the misinformation campaign has taken a more sinister dimension. Those who peddle such misinformation are generally Hindu religious fundamentalists or extremist Indian nationalists, who are interested only in the Hindu victims. But they go an extra miles to mask the nature of the overall genocide, where the overwhelming majority of the victims were Muslims. It has also become quite common to distort the reality and the truth. A common estimate of the genocide victims is 3 millions. Those who seem to have a vested interest in a disinformation campaign claim that Hindu Genocide in 1971 consisted of 3 million Hindu victims, which any work of respectable and credible genocide scholars would repudiate.

One of the sources that is propagating about this Hindu Genocide is Hinduunity.org. Just one visit to the site will give someone a good understanding of this major Hindu site, representing the extremist fundamentalist forces that are now at the helm of India. Also, you can read HRCBM: Lies about 1971. It is also a failure of Bangladeshis to adequately and accurately inform the world about this terrible genocide.

Unfortunately, many genocide sites, unknowingly, contain such misinformation. It is also a failure of informed and conscientious Bangladeshis to provide and disseminate correct information and confront such misinformation.

One of the goals of this site is to help genocide-related sites to be better informed about the genocide of 1971 and update with accurate information.

Below is listed this site's effort in this regard. Assistance and cooperation of all those concerned would be greatly appreciated.
